Without the creativity and innovation that bring the Arts to life, STEM can be cut off from its organic roots. While there is much talk of the “Sputnik Moment” rekindling motivation to strengthen school efforts in STEM, divorcing these efforts from the critical contributions of the Arts is a grave error. Though some people are calling this STEAM, I agree more with those who emphasize the collaborative nature of work in STEM fields and go with reordering the components to spell “TEAMS” (Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics and Science).
